Why are we so hard on ourselves? How deep is the brainwashing? Why do we sometimes get caught up with the unrealistic expectations of beauty that the media portrays? If we fall short of what we believe we should look like we sometimes feel defeated. But why should we allow media or others to dictate what's beautiful? Furthermore, why do we place so much value on something so transient? I sometimes wonder what life would be like if we all looked the same? What would we then fight or complain about?
Having developed relationships with customers for over 10 years now, and having ongoing struggles myself, I want you to know that you are not alone. We ALL have our moments but what is most important is getting back on our feet and waking up from the societal brainwashing that has been deeply ingrained in us. I have seen some of the most beautiful women nitpick at their flaws with serious disregard for what they do have. Some of us suffer from body dysmorphia which makes us never feel good enough. We must work on healing and building our self confidence before delving into the fashion world so that we can create a healthy relationship with our bodies and learn to love ourselves, flaws and all... And for all of the mommies out there - it is imperative that we practice gratitude for surviving what child birth has put us through - mentally, physically and emotionally! When we are kind to our bodies and love ourselves, only then can we give the love that our loved ones deserve. Only then can we truly feel beautiful from the inside out!
According to Susan Winter, a best selling author, relationship expert and empowerment coach,
"A woman's worth is the totality of who she is. We are more than our bodies. We are more than our age or beauty. We are more than our sexual allure. A truly empowered woman knows how to love herself and love another, completely. Her heart has no limits. Her choices have no limits."
So today let's stand together and say no more! Let's teach our daughters what's most important in this fragile but beautiful life! Our self worth must not be measured by unrealistic expectations of beauty. Teach them that although outer beauty will fade, inner beauty lasts a lifetime and is the type of beauty that touches countless lives. We are all beautiful and have something to give back to society. And besides... funny side note - have you ever seen a man lamenting because his calves are too small or his veins too apparent. That's a hard no! He's too busy enjoying life and loving you just the way you are ;).
Thanks so much Janelle! We most definitely will!
Love this. I can identify with this so much. Keep on posting because it is high time we start acknowledging the truth.
